In ancient Egypt, the scarab represented renewal of life. The sun was rolled across the sky by a scarab beetle, just as earthly beetles rolled balls of dung along the ground.
This necklace contains Russian serpentine, representing the green growing fields, onyx to show the rich black earth, lapis lazuli for the waters of the Nile whose annual floods fertilized the desert, and carnelian as the red of life's blood. In the center hangs a Sterling silver scarab beetle, surrounded by the life that his ancestors were given credit for nurturing. The style is delicate enough for a woman, but the colors are bold enough for a man to wear.
The piece is finished with a Sterling silver infinity-style lobster clasp and a 2" (5cm) extender. The necklace is matinee length at 17" (44.5mm) as you can see in the picture, and the scarab pendant is 3/4" (2cm) long x 5/8" (14mm) wide.
My pieces are double crimped at the ends for security and pendants are hung with split rings rather than jump rings. If you're purchasing this for a friend or loved one, consider adding a presentation box to your order. https://www.zibbet.com/melsbellsjewelry/necklace-presentation-box
